Entry Level Position

QC Inspector

We are looking for a responsible Quality Inspector to check the quality of all incoming and outgoing material and products as well as production procedures. You will be a firm advocate of quality in our business. The ideal candidate will possess a trained eye for detail and will be reliable and committed. In depth knowledge and comprehension of quality standards is essential.

Role Details

PQS is currently recruiting for a QC Inspector to join our team for a day or swing shift position in Portland, OR.


Job Description & Responsibilities

● Takes dimensional measurements of large diameter pipe using calibrated micrometers, calipers, tape measure, square ruler, ect; evaluate and determine compliance with dimensional tolerance.
● Follows API codes and customer specifications.
● Decide on disposition of pipe, i.e. accept, grind repair, cut-off or reject.
● Records all testing results in computer.
● Works closely with pipe formers and manual UT Prove-up Testers.
● Advise quality supervision on trends and repetitive non-compliance.

Job Requirements

● Experience using measuring tools required.
● Inspection experience required.
● Strong attention to detail, close observation and concentration skills.
● Excellent decision making, planning and organizational skills.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
● Good manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, mechanical aptitude.
● Advanced reading and writing skills.
● Visual/mental acuity to obtain Visual Certification within 90 days.
● Work safely in a heavy manufacturing environment.
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
● Must be able to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.

Preferred Experience

● Job-related experience with certification in MT, PT, UT, VT, RT and CWI.
● Knowledge of highly technical field.
● Experience with metals and/or steel.

Certified Position

Radiographic Testing Technician Level II DR-CR

Job Description & Responsibilities

● Ability to be certified in accordance with ASNT-SNT-TC-1A.
● Perform hands-on X-Ray of welds with DR and/or CR.
● Interpret images to applicable codes, storing images in accordance with established procedures and instructions.
● Mentor and provide on the job training of RT Level I and Radiographer Assistants with respect to radiation safety, image acquisition and image interpretation.
● Experience working with one or more of the following Standards. American Welding Society (AWS) codes D1.1, D1.5, D1.2, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), codes Section VIII and V and the Corp of Engineers.
● Current American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Desired.
● Experience with dimensional inspection.
● Ability to work independently to established procedures and instructions.
● Good interpersonal and communication skills.
● Ability to read and interpret drawings.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

● 3-5 years’ experience in Radiography and Quality Control.
● RT Level II Certification DR & CR to ASNT SNT-TC-1A latest addition.
● Industrial Radiation Safety Certified specifically in X-Ray (ASNT/IRRSP or equivalent).
● 20/22 Corrected/Uncorrected Near Vision in both eyes and a successful completion of a Brightness Discrimination Test.
● Ability to pass a background investigation.
● Ability to pass a written math test.
● Knowledge of material specifications (ASTM & ASME), Desired.
● Knowledge of welding specifications (AWS & ASME), Desired.
● Knowledge of other destructive and nondestructive examinations, Desired.
● Proficient with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)

Physical Demands & Work Environment

● Physical demands of position will require the ability to maneuver in a shop or yard assembly environment. Extensive walking and standing, climbing on ladders, scaffolding, crouching, twisting, and stooping are often encountered. Must be able to assist with the manipulation of tooling and equipment.
● The work environment can be physically demanding as well as in the proximity of moving equipment and cranes. Constant awareness of peripheral activity is necessary, with a mindfulness of not only personal safety, but the safety of people in the vicinity, and product and shop equipment.
